According to the Brazilian Adoption Law and current practice in Brazil:
- Adoptive parent(s) should be between the ages of 25-55. (Over age 55 will be considered on a case-by-case basis);
- Singles and persons previously divorced are permitted to adopt;
- Families who already have children are permitted to adopt;
- Both boys and girls are available for adoption.
When your child is assigned or referred to you, you will receive her/his picture and all available health information. The next step is to confirm in writing, your acceptance for adoption of the child assigned to you and return the Acceptance and Acknowledgment submitted to you with your referral.
Although you may request a specific age, there are no guarantees that you will receive the exact age requested.
