After securing the state seal on the required documents, you will need to send your documents to the appropriate Chinese Consulate or Embassy for the Chinese seal or authentication. Each document is sent to the Consulate or Embassy serving the state which put its seal on the document. We suggest sending your documents through an express service including a self-addressed return express service envelope. Listed below are the Chinese Consulates and Embassy with the states each Consular and Embassy serves.
When submitting documents to the Chinese Consulate or Embassy for authentication purposes, you need to include a completed Authentication Application Form (G-1 Form). The G-1 form varies slightly for different locations.
As of this date, consulates charge $20 per document for certification/authentication. In addition there is a one-time $5 handling charge. For example, ten documents certified would cost $205 (10 documents times $20 plus $5). We strongly recommend that you not send personal checks but instead send money orders or certified checks.
Expedited services could be available at certain locations. Please check the Consulates/Embassy web site for detailed information. You will need to submit your paperwork in person or utilize a courier service to use the expedited services. The courier services will charge a fee for their service.
Note: No expedited service is available for documents mailed to the Consulate.
A citizen of the United States must obtain a visa from the Chinese Embassy or Consulate to travel and be admitted to China. You can apply for a visa at any of the Consulates or Embassy in the United States after you receive your referral.
The Consulate or embassy does not accept mailed visa applications. You have to either apply in person or have a courier service to hand over your application. The charge for the visa is $100. The courier services will charge a fee for their service.
