Russia Program Update

by Tina Hazelip

We are pleased to have received our reaccreditation for the fourth year in the Russian Federation. Factors with reaccretitation include compliance with post placement reports and registration of adoptions with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, etc.

Since the beginning of the year, we have assisted 22 families with the completion of their adoptions! In addition, we are looking forward to assisting many families currently working on their dossiers and those who are waiting to travel.

Presently, we continue to see wait times of approximately five to six months after a completed dossier has been submitted to FTIA before the first trip referral or invitation for an infant or toddler female. For families who have no gender preference or for those who specify an infant or toddler boy, please be prepared that your process could move rather quickly since we do not have many families waiting for little boys. The current wait time for infant or toddler boys after dossier submission is one to three months.

The next few months (May, June & July), are typically vacation months for the officials in the regions. It is possible that adopting families may experience a delay in travel for first or second trips as a result of these vacations.

For our families who are in post placement, please know that we appreciate your promptness in submitting your post placement reports. In an effort to assist our adoptive families by reducing the amount of time and extra expense, we are asking that your home study agency provide us with an original notarized report (in addition to the photographs). To expedite the submission of these reports, we will be taking responsibility for getting the notarized post placement reports apostilled once received here at FTIA.

Please feel free to contact the Russia team if you have additional questions.
