Families Thru International Adoption -- Newsletter -- International Footsteps -- February 2005

Written by Keith WallaceThere is still no signed agreement between the U.S. and Vietnam to resume adoptions. The good news is that there has been some ongoing communication and negotiation. In the meantime, the U.S. and Vietnam are working on allowing the adoption of special needs children. As of early February 2005, there have been about ten dossiers submitted from different agencies on behalf of parents wanting to adopt special needs children. It appears that none of these cases have been processed because some changes need to be made to Vietnamese laws/regulations before the adoptions can proceed. FTIA was aware of the requirements of needed changes in Vietnamese law before special needs adoptions by U.S. citizens can proceed; therefore, we have not yet begun accepting applications for special needs adoptions. We will announce when we will begin accepting applications for special needs children from Vietnam on the Hot News page of our website. |
