What a life-changing experience it has been for me to adopt a baby boy from Guatemala! I feel so richly blessed and thank God for giving me such a wonderful gift in my new son, Luis.
I am a single mother of a biological daughter, conceived through artificial insemination. Christina is now twelve years old and has been asking for a sibling for years. The right man never seemed to come along and I have always wanted more than one child.
While sitting in church one Sunday in late August 2004, I was inspired to adopt a child. I decided to pursue this call and found a local adoption agency who advised me to adopt internationally.
The local adoption agency strongly suggested FTIA and everything seemed right with them. FTIA helped me with the dossier and all necessary paperwork, along with my local agency. My FTIA coordinator was a tremendous support during this whole process.
I received a referral of Luis Daniel after one month of turning in my dossier. Luis was 2 months old at referral. He was staying in an excellent children's home. I then had to wait another six long months to bring Luis home. The wait was excruciating! There were many tears shed during the waiting time. I have to say, Luis was worth the wait.
Luis was almost eight
months old when I finally got to hold him in my arms. I couldn't believe that I
did forget the waiting time when I finally had him with me.
Guatemala is a country I want to go back to many times in the next few years. It is so beautiful and the people are so kind. The temperature is always pleasant year round (surprise) because of the high elevation.
It is such a beautiful sight to see the many babies at the Marriott and Embassy with their parents. It's wonderful to see people loving their children.
I want to personally thank all the people at FTIA for their kindness, support, and knowledge of the adoption process. I felt prepared and ready to go to Guatemala when the time came. Many praises to God for showing me the way to my beloved son, Luis Daniel.
Sincerely,
Lori & Luis
